[dropcap size=small]E[/dropcap]t une de plus pour Hannah Barnes ! La jeune britannique a vraiment pris goût à la victoire, après ses succès sur la première et quatrième étape, elle règle le sprint du peloton et remporte la cinquième étape de ce Ras na Mban. Christine Majerus prend la deuxième position et nouveau podium pour Roxane Fournier qui arrive troisième de cette étape.
Concernant le classement général, les Irlandaises gardent la main mise en occupant toujours les trois premières places, avec dans l’ordre, Dillon, Spath et Boylan. A noter tout de même la remontée de Jenifer Letué dans le top 10.
Le fil de l’étape
Une étape qui s’anime dès son départ, elles sont quatre à attaquer d’entrée de jeu, Manon Lloyd, Julie Erskine, Kirsten Peetom et Coralie Demay. Les quatre fuyardes creuseront rapidement un écart avec le peloton autour de la minute alors que se profile la première difficulté du jour.
Dans cette difficulté, leur écart sur le peloton va fortement diminuer mais elles ne baissent pas les bras et relancent l’allure en tête de course, Kirsten Peetom en fait les frais et se fait avaler par le peloton. Devant, Lloyd, Erskine et Demay vont connaître le même sort que leur ancienne compagne d’échappée et se font reprendre à leur tour par le peloton.
Après cette première échappée et alors que nous sommes dans les 30 derniers kilomètres, Katrine Hofstad tente à son tour sa chance. Tandis qu’on approche de la ligne d’arrivée (25 derniers kilomètres), la norvégienne accentue son avance sur le peloton avec un écart supérieur à la minute mais son écart va fondre aussi vite que neige au soleil et le peloton la rattrape quelques kilomètres plus loin.
A force d’enchaîner les difficultés à un rythme soutenu, le peloton a perdu de nombreux éléments, dans les dix derniers kilomètres et dans la dernière ascension du jour, Christine Majerus et Véronique Fortin tentent leur chance, en vain, le premier peloton revient et Hannah Barnes règle le sprint de celui-ci. La jeune britannique remporte sa troisième victoire d’étape sur ce tour et accentue son avance au classement par points.
